THE morning of 5th November started as a remarkably beautiful morning. It had a tranquillity and grace in the air that stretched from England to India.
I spoke to Rowan about that morning and she has a lovely tale of her travels, go on ask her next chance you get.
It was a work day so I was up pretty early and picked up my messages once I was dressed and ready to set off.
It was Fennel breaking the news of Rona's death that morning at about 06.30.
Well, I think a universal reaction was “no! don't be silly. I know he has not been well but he wasn't that ill, it must be a mistake!”
Then it dawns that it would be a fairly remarkable mistake to make. I called work, thankfully they were understanding as I talked about Rona, my brother, all the time. However to be honest if they hadn't been understanding I would have read them their rather grim future.
I called my Dave who came home from work and stayed with me. H and Fen did
all the calling to everyone to break the news.
Rowan travelled back from the wilds of India by any means available, Ziggy and Gabi arranged time off work and booked flights back from Brazil, Neroli hot-footed it from Germany and Fennel legged if from France.
The calling work continued as more and more people needed to know but some of these people had been Rona's friends from some time ago so there was limited information - Bradford Road Sue - we couldn't trace you but we tried everything that we could think of!
As Rowan was travelling at this time with no work commitments she was able to get home to Bombadil and stay, being a symbol of stability for us.
